Ata Rangi (Martinborough) 2021 Pinot Noir

99 Points — Sam Kim, Wine Orbit
97 Points — Rebecca Gibb MW, Vinous

95 Points — Erin Larkin, The Wine Advocate
97 Points — James Suckling

Winery notes:
Early season frosts and cool weather during the flowering period resulted in low bunch numbers that were open and small berried. As a result, 2021 is a small yielding year in terms of quantity but concentrated and seamless in terms of weight and tannin. Weather conditions for the rest of season were kind and enabled us to harvest clean, impeccable fruit with ripe seeds and bright acid. Made from only our oldest pinot noir plantings on the Martinborough Terrace, this wine is the best of six small vineyards all within 500 m of our winery. The result is a complex, elegant wine, beautifully perfumed in the classic Ata Rangi style.

Ata Rangi (Martinborough) 2023 Crimson Pinot Noir

Winery note
"20 years ago we named this special Pinot Noir “Crimson” in support of Project Crimson, the charitable trust working to replant and preserve native red-flowering pōhutukawa and rātā trees throughout New Zealand.

Crimson is our selection of parcels from younger Pinot Noir vines from our various vineyards on the Martinborough Terrace. In their youth, vines tend to be more fruit expressive, gaining more complexity around 5-25 years.

2021 was a very small yielding vintage resulting in wines with intensity and concentration. The small compact bunches gave a wonderful blend of bright fruit aromas and more dark seductive notes of dark cherry, thyme and mulberry. The palate opens to more savoury notes of soy, tahini and burnt orange, which gives a depth of flavour. Combined with fresh acidity that gives energy and fine tannins that drive a sustaining finish. Only small quantities made, our Crimson 2021 shows the structure and drive of a small vintage in Martinborough."

Carrick (Central Otago) 2021 Bannockburn Pinot Noir

5 Stars - Candice Chow. Raymond Chan Wine reviews,

Carricks' estate Pinot Noir is always a treat and always consistent.
Winery description
"The Bannockburn Pinot Noir is Carrick's flagship wine, and the wine that we feel best represents the strong connection we have with our site. Known for its structure and ability to age well over a long period of time, the fruit is hand-picked from several vineyard parcels that are entirely grown on their own roots and are the oldest vines we have on the property. Now 25 years old. The 2019 growing season was slow to start with a cold, wet spring, followed by a warmer than average summer, yields came in on average and the numerous rain events were followed by wind, resulting in fruit arriving in good condition."

Devils Corner (Tasmania) 2022 Pinot Noir

Great value Pinot! A customer fave.

Winery note

"Our vineyards are located on Tasmania’s East Coast and in the Tamar Valley in the north of the state. The 2020 saw a cool season with very low yields of high quality Pinot Noir for table wine. The fruit was harvested at moderate potential alcohol yet with full flavour and ripeness. A versatile food wine that can be enjoyed with light or heavy dishes. Try this with pan fried duck breast and roasted Mediterranean vegetables. Or serve it with venison that is drizzled in a red wine and black pepper jus"

Gibbston Valley (Central Otago) 2022 China Terrace Pinot Noir

Gold Medal – NZ Organic Wine Awards 2022

Winery notes
"Gently fragrant red and dark fruits mix with anise and spice on the nose. The palate is light, showcasing attractive flecks of red fruit with shimmering sappy minerals. The wine’s grace and natural delicacy are offset by its very long finish. Beguiling and worth taking time over. Beautiful drinking for the next 5 years.

Drawing from Gibbston Valley’s most intriguing vineyards, the Single Vineyard range gives full voice to site. Planted in 2001, the China Terrace Vineyard is located in the Bendigo subregion. Gently sloped and north facing, it has 4 clones of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay planted over some 7 hectares. Being over 320m, it retains a coolness relative to Bendigo’s natural warmth. This, and the complex accumulation of loess, clay and schist in its soil, gives wines of fresh, bright complexity. China Terrace Pinot Noir was harvested ten days later than the lower altitude Bendigo sites. The fruit was in great condition at low sugar levels. We incorporated a range of whole cluster and maceration times, from 14-28 days, depending on the extent of whole cluster, into the ferments. The wine was pressed to barrel for 10 months, with 20% new oak used. The final blend has 33% whole cluster overall."

Gibbston Valley (Central Otago) 2022 Glenlee Pinot Noir

91/100 - Jasper Morris, Inside Burgandy

"Glenlee is a Pinot Noir that comes from a vineyard of one man’s dreams. Californian visionary Gary Andrus has passed on, but his belief in close planting Burgundian principles results in a vineyard legacy: low crops of intense fruit – and sore knees for anyone who works there! The wine is a thrilling expression of site and method." Christopher Keys, Winemaker

Gibbston Valley (Central Otago) 2022 GV Pinot Noir

90 Points -  Robert Parker
"The blended 2018 GV Collection Pinot Noir comes primarily from Bendigo and carries higher alcohol (14.1%) than any of the other 2018 Pinots. It's ripe and rich, with a slightly roasted character to its cherry and raspberry fruit. Dried leaves rustle around the edges, bringing a slightly tannic, drying sensation to the wine's finish."

5 vineyard blend, 3 Bendigo, 1 Pisa, 1 Gibbston.

Hand picked, multiple fermenters with 30% whole cluster.

10 months in French oak, 20% new.

As pioneers of the Central Otago wine region, Gibbston Valley has been handcrafting premium wine for more than three decades. The GV Collection exemplifies the winery's quality-focused, innovative spirit. Classically shaped from select vineyards, the wines are harmonious, elegant collectables.

Gibbston Valley (Central Otago) 2022 School House Pinot Noir

95 Points - Stephen Wong, Wine Sentience
95 points - Cameron Douglas MS

Winery description
"All clones were separated into multiple small batch fermentations. With the cool vintage and very low berry count, no whole clusters were included. The fruit’s natural intensity allowed a very gentle cap management to be employed. Following indigeneous fermentation, the wine was pressed to barrel (20% new), where it remained for 10 months before bottling. Typically alluring nose, darker violets and crushed red petal. The palate begins with a demurely lush textural expansion, before snapping through a svelte mid, and strikingly mineral finish. The 2020 School House Pinot Noir will cellar comfortably for 5-10 years."

One of the most popular 2nd tier Pinots around. Worth every cent and always over delivers.

Te Tera is made from a selection of  quality home-grown fruit. The resulting wine shows the expertise of an estate that was first to plant Pinot in Martinborough. Ripe and savoury but with nice freshness, this is a serious drop to decant now or age a while... if you can"
