"Te Kairanga John Martin Chardonnay 2019 is named after the founding father of Martinborough, John Martin, and is made from our best vineyard parcels and some of the oldest vines in the region. Light straw in colour with refined and fragrant aromatics including ripe pear, yellow stone fruit and nuts. Stony mineral characters lead to a deep, elegant palate and a luscious yet refined wine with a long, flowing finish. Best paired with tray baked chicken, butter beans, leeks and spinach."

Winery description

"Our Chardonnay is sourced from three different vineyards and four different clones - predominantly Mendoza (63%) with the balance spread across clones 95,15 and 1066. The fruit was hand-picked and immediately whole bunch pressed.  The heavy pressings were kept separate to minimise harsh phenolics.  The juice was lightly settled before being racked and inoculated for fermentation.  Halfway through fermentation, the wine was transferred to French oak of which 25% was new, and predominantly in 500L puncheon format. Full malolactic fermentation was carried out and the wine was then aged in oak on fine lees for 10 months. Elegant and vibrant with a weighty, dense palate. Precise flavours of ripe white peach and citrus are balanced with savoury, spicy oak influence and a firm mineral texture, leaving a salivating finish. Our Chardonnay is a food-friendly wine. A perfect match for Mediterranean food, pork, chicken and creamy mushroom pasta."

"Specially selected parcels of Chardonnay from our own vineyard and some from long term growing partners across Central Victoria were harvested in the cool of the night to preserve the fresh fruit flavors and delicate aromas. Each parcel was cool fermented separately in stainless steel, with some parcels being aged on lees, and some on French oak for a few months or both. Finding the perfect balance when blending these parcels together for the finished wine is another layer of the artistry. It begins with captivating aromas, then the luscious peaches and vibrant summer grapefruit tantalize the palate, whilst the subtle oak just lingers in the background. This highly drinkable wine is crafted for enjoyment upon release."
