Te Kairanga (Martinborough) 2023 Runholder Pinot Noir

Runholder is made with grapes grown on the Te Kairanga Home and McLeod vineyards, which were destemmed grapes then fermented in stainless and aged in French oak for 10 months for structured, smoothness and a velvety texture.

Winemaker John Kavanagh is one of the top Pinot Noir makers in Martinborough and has a long track record of outstanding Pinots. Crafted from our best vineyard parcels, the fruit for Runholder Pinot Noir is derived from nine clones, including the famed Abel clone. It is hand-picked block by block, hand sorted and destemmed. Fermented with wild yeast and hand plunged, The wine was aged for 10 months in French oak with balanced oak treatment and minimal fining and filtration

Deep, rich crimson hues lead to a flurry of bright red fruit and classic Martinborough savoury notes. The palate is ripe and plush with an enjoyable core of fruit. Fine grained tannins add structure with a soft spice finish. A perfect match for venison, Runholder Pinot Noir is very drinkable now but can be cellared for 5 to 8 years.

Te Mata Estate (Hawkes Bay) 2023 Merlot Cabernets

Winery description

"Individual parcels of each variety from each plot were de-stemmed before a traditional warm fermentation, followed by extended maceration on skins. The resulting wines were pressed, returned to tank for malolactic fermentation, then run off to a mixture of new and seasoned French oak barrels for 12 months’ maturation before blending. The wines were regularly topped and racked throughout maturation, blended and traditionally egg-white fined before bottling. The final blend is 49% Merlot, 43% Cabernet Sauvignon and 8% Cabernet Franc. Dark crimson with a bright purple hue, Estate Merlot/Cabernet ’21 has a complex and evocative scent of plum and blackberry, with the lightest fragrance of cedar. Seamlessly integrated, the aromas deepen on the wine’s palate into succulent, concentrated dark fruit with ripe, soft tannins. Structural, savoury and long, with a salivating acid/tannin balance, Estate Merlot/Cabernet ’21 runs a long, perfect line between approachability and elegance."

Thorn Clarke (Barossa) 2021 Shotfire Shiraz

93 POINTS & 5 STARS - Sam Kim Wine Orbit

When the Clarke forbears discovered gold in 1870 at the Lady Alice mine in the Barossa goldfields, so began a family dynasty intrigued by geology. A fine legacy that is reflected today in the terroir of our vineyards. The Shotfire range immortilises the Shotfirer’s hazardous job of setting and lighting the charges in the mines

The 2019 vintage in the Barossa can be summed up with two key points; low yields and high quality. Winter in 2018 was extremely dry and with high winds, frost and rain at flowering the Thorn-Clarke vineyards had a lot to contend with. As a result the vines had a very small amount of bunches and small amount of berries per bunch. Low yield though led to concentration of varietal characters in the bunches and the berries produced this year were intense in fragrance, flavour and colour. Best of all they have an amazing balance. Truly 2019 will sit alongside the greatest vintages the Barossa has seen this century.
